Digicel is a mobile operator that is expanding aggressively through developing markets, including the Caribbean. They have recently rolled out an offering that will allow customers in the U.S. to top up the accounts of family and friends in other markets, including Haiti, Guyana, and Jamaica. It is expected that this service will be very attractive to the millions of family members that have migrated to the developed world, but still support there family members back home with frequent remmittances.

It will be interesting to see if Digicel will at some point in the future tack on money transer services onto this offering as well. International Pre-Paid Minute & Stored Value Transfers will be an interesting space to watch over the next few months, with several well known players and start ups coming online with new products and services.
