Gartner: Users of mobile payments to double by 2012

Impact to be felt most in developing world where access to banking is limited

Computerworld - The number of people using mobile devices to purchase goods and services is expected to more than double by the end of 2012 globally, research firm Gartner Inc. reported today.

Mobile payment users will reach 74.4 million in 2009, an increase of 70% over the 43 million users in 2008, the firm said. In 2012, that number should exceed 190 million users.
