DonRiver’s new MintChip application takes advantage of the fast and easy transfer capabilities of the MintChip digital currency to enable mobile subscribers to send peer-to-peer domestic money transfers, pay for and transfer mobile airtime, and to send international remittances.  The application runs on the Apple iOS and connects to individual MintChip accounts that are hosted in the cloud.  The DonRiver Mintchip app is safe, easy to use, and provides immediate access to your MintChip Account right from the palm of your hand.  The DonRiver Mint Chip App has been submitted to The MintChip Challenge presented by the Royal Canadian Mint.

The DonRiver MintChip application provides users with access to their MintChip account and to value added mobile financial services that utilize digital currency.  Within the application the user is able to view their MintChip account balance, transaction history and transaction details, and conduct mobile payment and money transfer transactions.    The transaction details presented to the user from the application indicate whether the transaction was a debit or credit to the MintChip account.  

The value added mobile financial services enabled through this version of the application are as follows:

1. Peer-to-Peer Domestic Money Transfers:

This service enables the user to transfer digital currency from their MintChip Account to a recipient’s MintChip Account.  The user is able to enter a specific amount of currency to transfer and to select a recipient from a list of accounts.  The application allows for the transfer of various amounts including micro-transactions (under $10), nano-transactions (under $1), as well as larger transfers. The transfers are completed in real-time.  The application provides the ability for the service provider (The Mint, Transfer Broker, etc), to set associated transfer fees and/or applicable taxes, including providing transfers for free.

2. Mobile Airtime Transfers & Recharges:

This service enables the user to purchase and transfer pre-paid airtime for recipient mobile subscribers worldwide.  The application leverages the vast reach of a global airtime remittance hub operated by a DonRiver partner airtime recharge network, TransferTo (www.transferto.com).  This service allows a registered user of the application to send airtime to mobile subscribers in over 80 countries and across over 200 mobile network operators that have already been integrated into the TransferTo global airtime remittance hub.  Once the country and mobile number is selected within the application, a list of available airtime top-up products is displayed to the user for selection. The funds are deducted directly from the sender’s MintChip Account. 

3. International Money Transfers:

This service enables the user to initiate an international money transfer from the application.  The money transfer is completed through an integration to an international remittance provider.  The recipient of the money transfer can be from any country where the international remittance provider has a presence.  For the purpose of this demo, the country list only displays a sample of those that are available.  The funds are deducted from the sender’s MintChip account.The application allows for the transfer of various amounts including micro-transactions (under $10), nano-transactions (under $1), as well as larger transfers. The transfers are completed in real-time.  The intended recipient of the transfer will be able to collect the remitted funds in person at the retail agent locations of the partner international remittance provider.  Note that foreign exchange conversions and service charges are set by the international remittance provider and are presented to the sender, before the sender commits the transfer.
