Monitise’s Mobile Money Android app will be launched within the ‘Android Market’ and will include mobile banking functions such as account management, payment and commerce services. The app is built on Monitise’s mobile banking platform that is used by over 200 financial institutions for mobile banking and payments services.

PROVIDENCE, R.I.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--A cutting-edge mobile banking application for Google Android phones is to be launched by Monitise Americas, the leading mobile banking and payments provider.

Monitise’s Mobile Money Android app will soon be available as a free download from the ‘Android Market’ and will be compatible with all Android devices.

Neil Sentance, vice president wireless business development at Monitise, said, “Android is going to be big, and we will look to capitalize on its excellent customer experience capabilities, such as social networking. Soon, when Android owners are chatting to a friend on Facebook, for example, they might use their mobile to send them the money they owe from a night out.”

Monitise’s full range of account management, payment and commerce services will be available on the new Android app.

Alastair Lukies, chief executive, Monitise, said, “We are seeing a sharp rise in the use of mobile banking services globally as consumers take even more personal interest in and ownership of their money management.”

“Combine this with the fantastic user experience that new devices like Android phones provide, and we are seeing the inevitable step change in the mobile banking and payments landscape.”

The Monitise Android app will be powered by Monitise’s secure Mobile Money Manager platform. This has already been chosen by over 200 financial institutions in the UK and US to provide mobile banking and payments services to their millions of customers across over 2000 different handsets. The bank grade security and use of existing banking infrastructures inherent in the platform means that customers can use Monitise mobile applications from their bank with confidence.
